Alyona Shchennikova on her mindset after the injury she faced before the 2024 NCAA event
Alyona Shchennikova recently opened up about her mindset after facing an injury just before the 2024 NCAA Championships.
In a recent interview, the 23-year-old stated that she wanted to be the biggest cheerleader for her other teammates during the competitions. She also revealed it was a difficult task for her to be on the sidelines and watch her friends compete. She said (via LSU Sports.net):
"I was definitely trying to be our team’s number one hype woman and fan. I love gymnastics, but I love watching gymnastics, so it wasn’t hard for me to step back and watch my best friends do amazing things.”
Besides her collegiate career, Alyona Shchennikova has also been a member of the US national team in various tournaments such as the US Gymnastics Championships and the American Classic. She also won the all-around title and uneven bars individual titles during the 2017 US Classic.
